Cristo Rey Columbus High School Open Positions

Cristo Rey Columbus High School is part of the national Cristo Rey Network. Cristo Rey Columbus is a Catholic, college-preparatory high school for students of all faiths from families of limited financial means. It is co-educational and serves students of diverse backgrounds. We help our students grow intellectually, academically, spiritually, socially, and morally. Our Professional Work-Study Program (“PWSP”) is an integral part of our strategy. Through PWSP, our students work five days a month in a professional setting such as law firms, hospitals, banks, insurance companies, nonprofits and government entities. Through this work they cover almost half the cost of their education and they obtain a tremendous experience and education being mentored by professionals in our community. It is our aspiration that all of our students graduate from high school and college and become future leaders in the public and private sector, in corporations, service organizations, their own faith institutions, and the community at large.

Teachers

Cristo Rey Columbus High School is accepting applications mission-driven teachers for the 2018-2019 school year. Cristo Rey Columbus offers a college-preparatory education to students who might not otherwise be able to afford a Catholic education. Teachers must be willing to do whatever it takes to help students succeed including working an extended school day and an extended school year. Ideal candidates have experience scaffolding learning goals and differentiating instruction so that all students master the rigorous college-preparatory curriculum. Student engagement and high expectations are critical in our learning environment. Diversity is highly valued as we seek to reflect our student body and employ people with diverse backgrounds to serve as role models for our student. Part-time and full-time positions might be available depending on staff retention and emerging needs. Administrative Assistant

Who We Are Looking For

We are seeking a full-time administrative assistant who is passionate about the Cristo Rey mission. This person will be responsible for school administrative functions, primarily managing the school’s main office. Additional duties include the creation and modification of documents; communication with students, parents, administrators, and teachers; and other school-related tasks.

  • Basic Requirements
    • Associate’s degree or equivalent work experience.
    • Experience in school setting preferred.
    • Excellent verbal and written skills.
    • Strong knowledge of MS Office, especially Word and Excel.
    • Knowledge of school information systems, specifically PowerSchool, is a plus.
    • Fluency in Spanish is a plus.
    • Commitment to the mission of the school and the Cristo Rey Mission Effectiveness Standards.

      • Work hours are Monday through Friday, approximately 7:30 AM – 4 PM.

Academic Counselor 

Cristo Rey Columbus High School is seeking a licensed School Counselor for the 2018-2019 school year. Cristo Rey Columbus is a private Catholic school that provides a college-prep education to students who are extremely diverse, come from a wide range of middle schools, and differ significantly in their academic preparation. Students range in their academic preparation from students who are multiple year behind to students who are extremely strong academically and who rank amongst the top in Columbus and nationally. If you are a highly motivated, team-oriented person with high expectations for yourself and others and have experience and skills to share with our students and faculty, then this job may be for you. Other qualities sought: experience working with diverse populations, faith-based, solutions oriented, and organized. Some of the job responsibilities include:

  • Monitors all academic performance and student schedules to assure graduation requirements are met.
  • Serves as an advocate and advisor for all students.
  • Establishes and maintains a positive relationship with parents and ensures they are aware of the academic performance of their student on regular basis.
  • Organizes parent and teacher conference if student has academic concerns.
  • Provides optional/community resources to aid in students in their educational development. This is done by scheduling volunteer tutors to work with the students either during the day or after school. The tutors who have volunteered are available to provide extra assistance in subjects that may be deemed necessary by students, teachers or Academic Counselor.
  • Organizes and coordinates the implementation of State End-of-Course and Advance Placement Exams.
  • Reviews state mandated test results with students and parents so they understand what is needed for graduation.
  • Tracks and monitors academic progress and reports to administration and parents of the results, which are used to determine who is mandated for after school tutoring.
  • Reports to coaches, club advisors and staff student academic eligibility for sports and activities, and provide information to other coaches if students participate in athletics at their home high school.
  • Coordinates the after-school tutoring program for students with academic difficulties. This program is for students who have received one “F” or more than one “D” on the grade report and are mandated to remain each afternoon, except for the day they work. Other students who need help, or just want to be able to get their assignments completed prior to coming home are also welcomed to attend. Attendance is taken for the students that are mandated to stay, and disciplinary consequences are administered if they are absent. Each day, Monday – Thursday from 3:45 – 5:00 teachers who teach different subjects will be available to provide assistance. In addition, we have members of the National Honor Society who have volunteered to sit individually with students to tutor in various subjects.

Professional Work-Study Program Coordinator

Who We Are Looking For

We are seeking a skilled educational leader who is passionate about the Cristo Rey mission. This position is part of the PWSP department and will report to the Associate Director of PWSP. Generally, the Professional Work-Study Program Coordinator will be responsible for building strong relationships with students as a job coach, coordinating the daily operations of the PWSP, and interacting with the supervisors at the students’ worksites.


Basic Requirements
 

  • A Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Education experience (either teaching or administrative) is preferred.
  • Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced work environment and be a self-starter.
  • Sensitivity to the ethnic, racial, and religious backgrounds of the student body.
  • Proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and database management.
  • Commitment to the mission of the school and the Cristo Rey Mission Effectiveness Standards.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Compliance with BCI background checks and completion of Protecting God’s Children program.
  • Please note: Unlike faculty positions at Cristo Rey Columbus, the PWSP Coordinator position is year-round; the work-study office will remain open during spring and summer break periods.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Student Formation

    • Assist in development of curriculum and coordinate the student Summer BusinessTraining Program.
    • Assist in coordinating orientations and/or events for parents, students, and supervisors.
    • Assist with the formation of student teams and job assignments.
    • Develop, coordinate, and implement student and Business Sponsor recognition strategies.
    • Assist with daily check-in/check-out procedures with respect to students’ departure for and arrival from worksites.
    • Manage and record daily PWSP attendance; report absences to supervisors; and communicate with students, parents, and supervisors to reschedule missed workdays.
    • Collect, organize, and respond to feedback on daily timesheets submitted by Business Sponsors.

     

  2. Performance Reviews / Student Coaching

    • Manage student performance reviews.
    • Develop and maintain a job coach relationship with students, including but not limited to: meeting with students to review supervisor feedback and evaluations; addressing student questions and concerns; shadowing students at the worksite to identify and address performance issues; and working with students who have been terminated from their jobsite to help them reflect on performance, hone professional skills, and transition into a new work-study assignment.
    • Create and deliver daily professional development “mini sessions” to be given to students before they leave for work each morning.

     

  3. Business Sponsor Relations
    • Support PWSP Director and Associate Directorin managing relationships with Business Sponsors, including but not limited to: making regular phone calls, e-mails, and worksite visits; updating databases; and responding to Business Sponsor feedback and evaluations.
    • Provide regular and timely updates on any issues regarding student placements with Business Sponsors.
    • Coordinate and/or assist with other activities involving students and Business Sponsors.

     

  4. Transportation

    • Assist PWSP Director, Associate Director, and other PWSP Coordinators with communications regarding transportation partners.
